About HopeMark Preschool
HopeMark Preschool was established in 1971, as a community
outreach project between St. Mark’s Episcopalian
Church and Hope United
Church of Christ. We are housed on the
top floor of Hope UCC, at Eichelberger and Tamm Avenues, on the corner of
Francis Park in St. Louis Hills. We are
a nonprofit, license exempt preschool that is governed by a board of directors
and is in compliance with the State of Missouri Department of Child Health
We have two large, fully equipped classrooms and offer 2 and
3 day morning classes and 4 day afternoon Pre-Kindergarten classes. There are two certified teachers in each classroom,
with a maximum student teacher ratio of 10:1.
There is also a weekly music session.
Our outdoor playground was updated in 2006 with new equipment and soft
surface turf. We also have an indoor
gymnasium to allow for large motor activity on inclement weather days.
PhilosophyAt HopeMark, we believe that children learn through
play. Play enables children to better understand their world. Children
enrich their social skills interacting with other children.
Manipulative play allows children to problem solve and develop
fine and gross motor skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Sensory exploration offers children the opportunity to self discover
math and science concepts. Through art, children learn creativity and
decision making. Dramatic play enhances social, emotional, and language
We also focus strongly on the academic skills
children need for Kindergarten. From alphabet, number, color and shape
recognition to concepts such as sequencing and opposites, to writing
and pre-reading skills, we prepare your child for success in
We also recognize the value of unstructured
gross motor play. Recent studies are proving that reduced recess time
at preschools and elementary schools is resulting in behavior problems
and lower test scores. During unstructured outdoor play, children
refine and strenghten large muscles while also developing social
skills. Chidlren are able to release energy and regulate emotions, and
are more able to pay attention in class when they have been given the
opportunity to excercise.
It is our goal that children will
emerge from their time at HopeMark with the emotional intelligence
skills (self confidence, awareness and control, the ability to listen,
wait ones turn, cooperate, share and work with others) and the academic
foundation that will enrich their experience in Kindergarten and beyond.
You are welcome to download a sample teacher observation sheet. Parent - Teacher conferences are held in November and March.
